The week-long Fleet Week celebration has kicked off in South Florida, and the U.S. military has chosen Miami as its destination this year. The festivities began at the Frost Museum of Science on Sunday, where attendees were treated to a free performance by the U.S. Navy Band.
As part of the event, guests had the opportunity to meet sailors and Marines, as well as witness real K-9 training demonstrations. Dr. Cassie Freund, director of science communication at Frost Science, expressed her excitement about having the Navy in Miami for Fleet Week. She emphasized the importance of their role in a city located on the ocean and noted that their participation in demonstrating different types of science was also valuable.
More than 3,000 members of the U.S. Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard are participating in Fleet Week in South Florida this year. The Navy has brought four of its ships to PortMiami for the occasion, making it a special occasion for both the military and local community alike.
Fleet Week is always an exciting time for Miami residents who love to see military personnel in action and interact with them up close.
The U.S Navy is showcasing its latest technology during fleet week such as unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), helicopters and other cutting-edge equipment that will leave visitors impressed.
