A former employee of CoreCivic, a prison and detention center management company, is suing the company over allegations that he was wrongfully terminated due to his mental health conditions. The ex-employee, who claims to have suffered from anxiety and depression, alleges that he was let go from his position as a unit manager in Shelby, Montana.
CoreCivic contends that the worker was fired due to allegations of retaliation against a Hispanic subordinate who had reported him for mocking her accent. However, there are also indications that a jury may interpret the events leading up to the termination differently and suggest that CoreCivic used the incident as an excuse to dismiss him.
The trial will provide both sides with an opportunity to present their arguments and evidence to the jury, which will ultimately determine whether or not the termination was justified or if there were any violations of employment and discrimination laws.
