Fortnite and Epic Games Store set to launch on iPadOS in 2021

Epic Games has announced that Fortnite will be coming back to tablets with iPadOS, along with its own digital store. This decision was made after the European Union designated iPadOS as a market access guardian and required it to open up by their Digital Markets Law. As a result of this law, Apple will need to modify iPadOS to allow users to remove preinstalled applications and download apps from external sources.

The European Commission also announced that iPads will need to comply with the Digital Markets Act. In response, Epic Games took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that they are working on bringing Fortnite and their store back to iPhones in the EU soon, followed by a release on iPads later this year within the European Union. This move comes after Epic Games’ successful return to iOS devices with Fortnite and their store.

Apple will have to make changes to iPadOS in order to comply with the Digital Markets Law, which includes allowing users more control over their applications and enabling support for downloading apps from sources other than the App Store. Epic Games is determined to make Fortnite available on iPads as soon as possible within the European Union, following their successful return to iOS devices.
