French bakers break world record by making longest baguette

On May 5th, 2024, a team of French bakers made history by breaking the world record for the longest baguette. The event took place during the Suresnes Baguette Show near Paris and was celebrated as a proud moment for France, as they reclaimed the title from Italy.

The previous record was set in 2019 in Italy, with a baguette measuring 132.62 meters. However, this time around, the French bakers created a baguette that measured an impressive 140.53 meters, setting a new world record.

The bakers had to knead and shape the dough on site and bake it in front of the public in a rolling oven. The baguette had to be at least 5 centimeters thick throughout its length to qualify for the record. The traditional process began at 3 a.m., with supervision starting at 5 a.m., and ended with measuring and verifying its length by Guinness World Records representative on site after baking is done.

Dominique Anract, president of the French National Confederation of Boulangerie et Patisserie praised the bakers’ efforts stating that setting a record for the longest handmade baguette required true collective sportsmanship. As part of their goodwill gesture, part of
