North Olmsted has recently witnessed a flourishing Arab community, with over a dozen Arab-owned businesses along the same road. Among these businesses are many owned by Palestinians, who are currently facing the consequences of the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
Fire and Dough is one such establishment, owned and operated by Nizam Suliman. As both the owner and chef, Suliman takes pride in serving fresh, halal meat to his customers. His passion for cooking began at a young age while living in the Middle East. In 2013, he arrived in Cleveland and was able to fulfill his dream of opening his own business on Oct. 10, 2023.
However, just after Fire and Dough’s grand opening, the Israel-Hamas conflict erupted. Suliman expressed how the war overseas has weighed heavily on the Palestinian community in North Olmsted. The loss of loved ones has led to a somber atmosphere that has affected business and made it difficult to celebrate the new restaurant.
Despite these challenges, Suliman remains hopeful that peace will be achieved in his home country and around the world. He is grateful for the support shown by the North Olmsted community and reassures his workers that everything will eventually improve as he strongly believes in a better future for all people involved in this conflict.
