The World Video Game Hall of Fame will be returning to in-person at the Strong National Museum of Play for the first time since 2019. The event, which takes place on May 9 at 10:30 a.m., will see the induction of games from four different decades of gaming.
Among the nominees are classics like Atari Asteroids, which was played on coin-fed consoles in arcades in the 1970s, and Guitar Hero, which gave living-room rockers the chance to compete on a plastic guitar when it was released in 2005. Other games being considered for induction include Elite, Metroid, SimCity, Ultima from the 1980s, and titles like Myst, Neopets, Resident Evil, Tokimeki Memorial, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, and You Don’t Know Jack from the 1990s.
The Hall of Fame was established by The Strong in 2015 to honor games that have made a significant impact on the world of gaming. These games are being considered not only for their longevity but also for their geographic reach and influence on video game design and pop culture.
