On Thursday, London police announced a successful infiltration of the criminal network known as “LabHost,” which defrauded over 2,000 individuals of nearly a million pounds ($1.24 million) since its inception. The operation resulted in the arrest of 37 suspects and led to the identification of 40,000 phishing sites linked to the network.
The global investigation, led by the London Metropolitan Police and involving police forces from 19 countries, revealed that LabHost had obtained over 480,000 bank card numbers and one million passwords worldwide. The network had 10,000 users and a particularly destructive element that allowed criminals to monitor phishing campaigns in real-time, bypassing security measures.
Deputy Commissioner Lynne Owens from Scotland Yard emphasized the impunity with which online fraudsters operate, hiding behind platforms like LabHost. Owens noted that the arrest of the suspects involved in this criminal network was a significant achievement in combating online fraud.
