Despite concerns raised by AstraZeneca’s admission that the vaccine could cause blood clots in rare instances, health authorities in Ho Chi Minh City have reassured the public that there have been no reported cases of blood clots in the city following the administration of over 9 million doses of the vaccine from March 2021 to June 2023.
The Director of the Department of Health in Ho Chi Minh City, Tang Chi Thuong, emphasized that blood clots are a rare side effect of the Covid-19 vaccine and can be effectively treated. He urged people not to fear receiving the vaccine, emphasizing its importance in protecting against severe illness and death from Covid-19.
Doctor Truong Huu Khanh, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Association of Infectious Diseases, echoed this sentiment, explaining that blood clotting issues can arise in various clinical situations, including Covid-19 infection, and are not solely linked to vaccination. Khanh emphasized the need for continued monitoring and early detection of potential complications following Covid-19 vaccination, including blood clotting disorders.
In light of AstraZeneca’s acknowledgment of potential blood clotting side effects, experts believe that this recognition will guide future vaccine research and development, prompting closer attention to potential adverse effects in future vaccination efforts. Despite the acknowledgment of rare side effects associated with the vaccine, health authorities continue to stress the importance of vaccination as a crucial tool in combating the Covid-19 pandemic.
