World Court Denies Request for Emergency Actions Regarding German Arms Exports to Israel

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has ruled against issuing emergency orders to halt German arms exports to Israel, while expressing deep concern about the living conditions in Gaza. However, the court did not grant a German request to throw out the case, allowing it to proceed.

In a separate case, Nicaragua had requested the ICJ to order Germany to stop military arms exports to Israel and resume funding for the UN Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA, citing a serious risk of genocide in Gaza. Despite this request, the court declined to issue any orders, stating that the current circumstances did not warrant emergency measures.

Presiding Judge Nawaf Salam emphasized the court’s ongoing concern about the dire living conditions faced by Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, particularly their prolonged deprivation of food and basic necessities. Despite this decision, he reiterated that the situation in Gaza remains a pressing issue that requires attention and action from all parties involved.
