Rishabh Pant makes India’s T20 World Cup 2024 squad, Shubman Gill dropped: Cricket News

India has announced their 15-man squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, with Rishabh Pant making a return to the team after recovering from a serious car crash in December 2022. Pant, who suffered multiple injuries in the accident, recently returned to the game with the Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League and has a strong record in T20 internationals with 987 runs in 66 matches.

The squad is led by Rohit Sharma, who will lead the team in their pursuit of a second T20 World Cup title, with Hardik Pandya as his deputy. In addition to Pant, power-hitter Rinku Singh was named among the four reserve players.

Shubman Gill will not be part of the main squad as selectors have opted for Yashasvi Jaiswal as Rohit’s opening partner. The team boasts a strong bowling attack led by pace bowlers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and Arshdeep Singh, supported by spinners Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel.

India made the semifinals of the T20 World Cup two years ago in Australia and will begin their campaign this year against Ireland in Group A, followed by a highly-anticipated match against arch-rivals Pakistan. The squad is also led by Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav and includes Sanju Samson and Shivam Dube among others. The reserves include Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed and Avesh Khan.
