Iran Promises to Share Technology as Nuclear Program Sparks Tensions

In Tehran, Iran’s head of the Atomic Energy Organization, Mohammad Eslami, announced at an industrial achievements exhibition that his country is prepared to share its nuclear technologies with other nations. This declaration coincided with Iran’s first International Conference on Nuclear Sciences and Technologies, attended by high-ranking Iranian officials and the Saudi ambassador to Tehran.

Meanwhile, Rafael Grossi, head of the UN’s International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), visited Tehran with the aim of improving strained relations between Iran and the international regulatory body. During his visit, Grossi emphasized the importance of cooperation and transparency in nuclear activities. His trip comes at a crucial juncture as Iran has intensified its nuclear program, enriching uranium up to 60% purity, just one step away from weapons-grade levels.

The IAEA has expressed concerns about its limited ability to effectively monitor Iran’s nuclear program due to restrictions on its top inspectors. These challenges are exacerbated by Iran’s involvement in regional conflicts, leading to international alarm over the potential military dimensions of its nuclear pursuits.

Since the US withdrawal from the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), Iran has gradually abandoned the agreement, resulting in increased nuclear activities. Despite these provocations, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi reaffirmed that Iran’s nuclear goals are peaceful and called for an end to sanctions. Raisi emphasized that possessing the capability to produce a nuclear weapon does not necessarily indicate an intention to do so.
