The USA has expressed agreement with Israel’s dissatisfaction with reports of mass graves in the Gaza Strip. US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan called the reports “deeply disturbing” and stated that they are seeking answers from the Israeli government. The European Union and UN Human Rights Commissioner Volker Türk have also called for independent investigations into the matter.
Following the release of a hostage video by Hamas, spontaneous protests broke out in Israel. Demonstrators gathered near Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s residence to demand the release of the hostages. Some clashes with the police occurred, leading to arrests. There have been ongoing calls for the government to make a deal with Hamas to secure the release of the hostages, but negotiations have reportedly stalled.
Meanwhile, reports emerged that civil defense authorities controlled by Hamas discovered approximately 200 bodies in mass graves at Nasser Hospital and another 30 bodies at Al-Shifa Hospital, buried under mountains of rubbish. The Israeli military denied responsibility for these mass graves, stating that they were returned to their gravesites after examination.
The 24-year-old hostage in the video made serious accusations against the Israeli government, claiming they had failed to protect Israeli citizens and abandoned them for almost 200 days. Questions remain about the circumstances surrounding this video and whether or not it was genuine.
