Israel Seeks New Supplier as Turkey Withdraws from Agriculture Ministry’s Vendor List

The Ministry of Agriculture in Israel is seeking new suppliers for vegetables and fruits following a decline in trade relations with Turkey during the War of Iron Swords. Imports of onions, cucumbers, peppers, zucchini, tomatoes, and pears have decreased significantly as Turkey has stopped trading with Israel. Despite this, the ministry states that there is no expected shortage of these goods.

Turkey’s share of agricultural imports to Israel has been declining since the start of the war. For example, in April 2023, only 70 tons of the 3,000 tons of tomatoes imported into Israel came from Turkey. On the other hand, Israel’s agricultural exports to Turkey are modest, with annual imports worth $16 million for dates and $11 million for vegetable seeds. There is currently no reciprocal influence on Turkey’s economy from Israel.

The ministry is working to maintain a steady supply chain and address any potential gaps in imports from Turkey. The search for alternative suppliers for these goods is ongoing to ensure that Israeli stores continue to have access to fresh produce.
