Trainline, a leading technology company in the rail industry, has conducted a recent study on Italian train travel preferences. The findings reveal that 76% of Italians appreciate train travel, which is higher than the European average. This shows that Italians continue to show a strong preference for train travel.
The study also highlights that three-quarters of the Italian population have traveled by train multiple times in the past three years. This indicates that trains are an important mode of transport in Italy and beyond. In addition, comfort during travel, convenience, and sustainability are the main reasons cited by Italians for choosing trains over other modes of transportation.
Young people aged 18 to 24 show a particular interest in greener travel options, indicating a growing trend towards sustainability in transportation among this generation. When it comes to tourism, Europeans prefer the train for both domestic and foreign holidays. In Italy, over half of the population (56%) chooses the train for short holidays and long weekends, while European respondents plan to use trains for trips abroad at a rate of 81%.
