The New York Jets have announced that they will retain coaches Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas for the 2024 season, but they have made changes to their sports performance and sports science staff. According to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, director of high performance Brad DeWeese is no longer with the organization. Additionally, assistant director of high performance Robert Sausaman and director of sports science Matt Sams have also left the team after joining when Saleh became the coach in 2021.
The team’s website now lists Alexander Carnall as the sports science coordinator, but there have been no new additions on the performance side of things. However, Cimini reports that the departures were not based on performance issues, but Douglas did acknowledge the high number of injuries the team has experienced along the offensive line in the last two seasons. To address this issue, the team has added older tackles Tyron Smith and Morgan Moses in an effort to improve the line’s performance. Keeping these players on the field will be crucial for a successful 2024 season.
Overall, the Jets are making changes to their sports performance and sports science staff in hopes of minimizing injuries and improving player performance. While some key personnel have left the organization, the team is working to ensure that they have the support they need for a successful season ahead.
