John Taylor, Former 49ers Player, Inducted into Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame

John Taylor, a former 49ers wide receiver, has been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Taylor, who was originally drafted in the third round (76th overall) in the 1986 NFL Draft out of Delaware State, spent his entire 10-year NFL career with San Francisco. During his time with the team, he made two Pro Bowl appearances in 1988 and 1989 and was a key contributor to their success.

Taylor’s impressive performance on the field earned him a spot on the Pro Football Hall of Fame All-1980s team. Throughout his career, he amassed 347 receptions for 5,598 yards and 43 touchdowns. Not only was Taylor a standout wide receiver but also made an impact on special teams. He holds the franchise record for the most punt returns in 49ers history with 149 returns for 1,517 yards and two touchdowns. His longest punt return still stands as a record in the team’s history – a remarkable achievement that solidifies his place as one of the greatest players in 49ers history.
