Jaromír Jágr makes history as oldest professional hockey player by scoring in first game since turning 52, surpassing Gordie Howe

Jaromír Jágr is a legendary Czech ice hockey player who is currently in his 36th professional season with Rytíři Kladno. At 52 years old, he surpassed Gordie Howe as the oldest professional hockey player on Thursday when he took the ice in a game against VHK Vsetín. Jágr, who owns and operates the Czech team, scored in a 7-2 win, giving Kladno a 2-0 series lead in their playoff relegation series.

Jágr’s career began with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1990 and he played his final NHL game with Calgary Flames in 2018. During his time in Pittsburgh, a planned bobblehead night was canceled after the shipment of giveaways was stolen during delivery. However, Jágr continued to shine in the NHL and ranks second all-time in scoring and fourth in goals scored.

Despite his accomplishments on the ice, Jágr has been playing intermittently with Kladno since leaving the Calgary Flames. His enduring career and continued success serve as a testament to his dedication and passion for the game of hockey.
