On May 22, the Science Communications Seminar Series will offer practical advice on ‘Tips for Making Your Research Understandable to Broad Audiences’. If you find yourself in a situation where you need to explain your research to non-scientists, whether at a social gathering, a chance encounter or in a funding application, this seminar will provide you with valuable insights into how to effectively communicate your work.
The panel discussion, scheduled for 2 p.m. on May 22, will feature PhD scientists who have successfully transitioned into professional communicators. They will share their best practices for making scientific concepts understandable to a wide audience and will also highlight common pitfalls to avoid. Attendees will have the opportunity to seek suggestions from the experts on how to improve their own science communication skills.
The panelists include Audrey Huang, PhD, MA, Melissa Laitner, PhD, MPH, Vanessa McMains, PhD and John Timmer, PhD. These experts come from diverse backgrounds in science communication and will offer different perspectives on how to effectively convey complex research topics in an engaging manner that is easy for broad audiences to understand.
