The Alliance Theatre in Atlanta is set to host the world premiere of Adam Guettel’s “Millions” as part of its 2024-2025 season. The musical, based on the novel and film by Frank Cottrell Boyce, tells the story of two brothers who find a duffel bag of cash while coping with the loss of their mother. With a book by Bob Martin and music and lyrics by Guettel, the production will reunite Guettel with director Bartlett Sher, who previously worked together on “The Light in the Piazza.” Performances are scheduled to run from May 10 to June 15, 2025.
The upcoming season at the Alliance Theatre will feature several world premieres, including Milo Cramer’s “Business Ideas,” directed by Matt Torney and running from November 16 to December 15, 2024. Zora Howard’s “Bust,” a co-production with Chicago’s Goodman Theatre, will be directed by Lileana Blain-Cruz and perform from February 13 to March 16, 2025. Jake Brasch’s “The Reservoir,” a co-production with the Denver Center for the Performing Arts and Geffen Playhouse, will be directed by Shelley Butler and run from March 29 to May 4, 2025.
In addition to these world premieres, the season will also include new stagings of Katori Hall’s “The Mountaintop,” directed by Tinashe Kajese-Bolden from August 30 to September
