Armand Duplantis made history at the Diamond League meet in China, breaking his own world record in the pole vault. The 24-year-old athlete from Sweden, also known as Mondo, proved his talent and skill by surpassing the record of 6.23 he had set just last September at the Diamond League meet in Oregon.
Duplantis entered the competition at 5.62 meters and went on to clear 5.82 and 6 meters before successfully attempting the record and clearing it on his first try. This marked the eighth time Duplantis has set a world record in his pole vaulting career.
The event also saw other notable performances, including Christian Coleman winning the 100 meters in 10.13 seconds, with Fred Kerley finishing second in 10.17. In the women’s events, Gudaf Tsegay set the third-fastest time in history in the women’s 1,500-meters with a time of 3 minutes and 50.30 seconds. The women’s 200 meters saw an upset as Australian Torrie Lewis defeated world champion Sha’Carri Richardson in a close finish, with Lewis winning in 22.96 seconds.
