Copper Country Sweets, a newly organized Laurium small business located on Hecla Street, has indefinitely postponed its scheduled opening after being vandalized earlier this week. The vandals threw a brick through the front window on April 29 or 30, causing significant damage to the bakery.
Erin Turner, the business owner, announced on Copper Country Sweets’ Facebook page that the grand opening has been delayed due to the vandalism incident. Fitzgerald’s Restaurant in Eagle River has responded by initiating a donation campaign to assist Turner and her business. They will be collecting donations through an event on Tock to show support for Turner in the wake of the vandalism.
Fitzgerald’s Restaurant owner Mike LaMotte expressed his support for Turner and urged others to contribute to the fundraising efforts. “We want to help Erin get back on her feet and open her business as soon as possible,” he said. “She’s put so much hard work into Copper Country Sweets, and it’s a shame that someone would target her like this.”
The Tock page allows for purchasing tickets to donate to Turner and help demonstrate that there are more people willing to help than harm. The Laurium Police Department was unable to provide any comment on the incident.
For those interested in contributing to the fundraising efforts, they can visit www.exploretock.com and search for Fitzgerald’s Restaurant. The donations collected will be directed towards supporting Turner and Copper Country Sweets during this difficult time.
