Owensboro Public Schools has recently announced the appointment of Chad Alward as the district’s Director of Technology. Alward brings with him over 16 years of administrative experience, having served in various leadership roles such as assistant principal at different schools, director of the K-8 Virtual Academy within Daviess County Public Schools, and District Instructional Technology Coordinator at Ohio County Schools. Currently serving as Assistant Principal at Daviess County High School, Alward is excited to join the team at OPS and looks forward to collaborating with technicians, students, teachers, administrators, and the community to enhance the district’s success and uphold its tradition.
As the Director of Technology, Alward will be responsible for providing vision and leadership in implementing and maintaining information technology initiatives district-wide. His focus will be on enhancing collaboration and growth among staff and students, with the aim of preparing students for success in an ever-evolving technological landscape.
Alward emphasized that his goal is to create an environment that encourages the use of technology to support learning and skill development. He believes that empowering students to think critically and become creators rather than just consumers of technology is essential for their future success. He aims to create a culture where innovation thrives in order to prepare students for challenges they will face in their personal and professional lives.
Interim OPS superintendent Anita Burnette praised Alward as a highly qualified candidate for the position. Burnette noted that his extensive experience in education technology along with his ability to adapt quickly to new technological advancements made him stand out from other candidates. Burnette added that she was confident that Alward’s leadership would further establish OPS as a leader in educational technology initiatives across Kentucky.
