The Elk Grove Center held a ribbon cutting event to officially open its new science building, known as Building B. This $20 million facility is equipped with classrooms and laboratories for biology, chemistry, and other science courses. Fire Chief Felipe Rodriguez expressed his excitement to have the college located in front of the fire station, emphasizing the importance of the new building for people to prosper, learn, and advance in their future careers.
Associate Vice President of Student Services, Tadael Emiru highlighted the significance of the facility in providing the Elk Grove community with access to college courses as the EGC serves as the only higher education campus in the area. He noted that science classes are usually the first to fill up during enrollment and this new facility helps to increase capacity to serve those students.
College President Dr. Edward Bush emphasized the importance of expanding the campus’s educational program while maintaining the use of new technology. He also noted that this expansion strengthens relationship between CRC and community. Director of Administrative Services, Chris Raines shared plans for completing third phase expansion at EGC in next 10-15 years adding another facility. Classes have already begun at new facility since start spring 2024 semester with plans to add more courses in fall semester.
Raines pointed out that courses offered at both main campus and EGC are same as those offered at Sacramento State University but at a more affordable price. Despite challenges faced in education, Rodriguez emphasized importance of providing access to education for all communities
