Nueces County is committed to expanding healthcare access for residents living in rural areas. Currently, the Johnny Calderon Building only offers healthcare services twice a week, which makes it difficult for individuals to access these services. However, officials are working hard to make these services more readily available.
According to Xavier Gonzalez, Nueces County Director of Health and Wellness, increasing access to healthcare is crucial for the community’s wellbeing. Plans are underway to extend hours at the Public Health Services at the Johnny Calderon Building from Tuesdays and Thursdays only to Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The goal of this expansion is to make healthcare services more accessible to those living in rural areas who may currently face long drives to reach the nearest health department. Joe Gonzalez, Nueces County Commissioner Precinct Two, highlighted the county’s efforts to finalize a contract with a new vendor, Amistad, to provide these important healthcare services.
With the success of the Operation Health and Wellness Program, officials have identified a significant need for expanded healthcare services in rural areas. As a result, plans are moving forward to increase the availability of Public Health Services at the Johnny Calderon Building starting October 1st. This expansion aims to address the needs of the community and provide essential healthcare services to those who require them.
