Investigation Underway After Burning Odor Evacuates Franklin Science Center

A burning odor was detected inside the Franklin Science Center on Monday afternoon, prompting an evacuation and a mass email from SU News. Emergency vehicles from the Shippensburg Fire Department and SUPD, along with university facilities, arrived at the scene around 2:45 p.m. to investigate.

The building was deemed safe to reopen by 3:15 p.m., but authorities stayed on site to continue investigating the source of the smell. Facilities personnel were seen inspecting the ceiling of room 108, which was suspected to be the source of the odor. The SU facilities team continued to examine the area after the building was reopened.
