The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are quickly taking shape, with 14 teams per discipline being confirmed following the first day of competition at the World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24. In the women’s and men’s 4x100m and 4x400m events, as well as the mixed 4x400m, teams automatically qualified for a spot at the upcoming Olympics.
On Saturday, teams in each of these events raced in four heats, with the top two finishing in each heat securing a spot in Sunday’s finals and also booking their place for Paris. Three nations – France, Great Britain & Northern Ireland, and the United States – each qualified four teams for Paris, while Canada, Italy, and Poland each qualified three teams.
The mixed 4x400m heats set a record-breaking pace on Saturday alone, with eight teams finishing inside the previous championship record. In addition to qualifying for Paris, these eight teams will compete for prize money and Olympic lane seeding positions on Sunday.
All other teams will race again on Sunday in an additional round. The top two teams from this round will also qualify for Paris in both events. On Monday morning, we’ll find out which two remaining spots will be awarded to countries based on their performance during the qualification period from December 31st to June 30th.
Among those who have already secured their place at the Paris Games are Australia, Canada, France, Germany
