In the Louisville area, several female athletes have shown off their skills on softball fields and lacrosse courts, earning them nominations for the Courier Journal girls athlete of the week. The voting for this award is currently open and will close at 6 p.m. on Thursday, with the winner being announced on Friday.
Among the nominees is Manual senior Cameron Breier, who scored eight goals and had six assists in a lacrosse game against Mercy. Another nominee is Portland Christian sophomore Ava Gish, who had an outstanding performance in softball with seven hits and five RBIs in games against Beth Haven, Presentation, and Christian Educational Consortium.
Collegiate senior Bridgette Haraden also received a nomination for her impressive game with six goals and one assist against Cooper in lacrosse. Maya Merrill from Mercy was recognized for her pitching skills, striking out 31 batters in games against Fern Creek, Atherton, Boyle County, as well as earning a save against Fern Creek. Assumption junior Lauren Satterly is also up for the award after recording six hits, including two home runs, six RBIs, and two stolen bases in softball games against Eastern, Male, and Jeffersonville.
