The National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi) announced that the unemployment rate in March dropped to its lowest level on record, at 2.3 percent. This significant decrease from the previous months can be attributed to the growth of the secondary sector and the creation of over 400 thousand jobs.
According to the National Occupation and Employment Survey (ENOE), the country’s employed population was 59 million 818 thousand 274 in March, an increase of 414 thousand 335 jobs compared to February and 799,994 more than in March 2023. Out of this total, subordinate and paid workers represented a one million increase from the previous year, while there were also three million employers and two million self-employed individuals.
The services sector accounted for over half of the employed population in March, with over 26 million people working in this sector. Additionally, there were around eleven million people in commerce and ten million in manufacturing. Other sectors such as agriculture had around six million people employed, construction had four hundred and sixty thousand, while other economic activities had around four hundred and twenty-four thousand employees. Furthermore, there were also three hundred fifty-two thousand individuals who did not specify their activity.
Overall, these positive trends indicate a healthy economy with a growing job market that has contributed significantly to decreasing unemployment rates and increasing employment numbers.
