McCarty played three seasons with the Red Sox and was part of the curse-breaking 2004 World Series championship team. He spent the final three seasons of his 11-year MLB career with the Red Sox, following stints with seven other teams. He was a first baseman and outfielder who played 630 games in his career, representing teams such as the San Francisco Giants, Seattle Mariners, and Oakland Athletics. After retiring from baseball, McCarty worked as a Red Sox TV analyst for New England Sports Network.
