At the Rochester Institute of Technology, a new gateway has been unveiled in the form of the 180,000-square-foot Student Hall for Exploration and Development. This unique building is unlike any other on campus, offering views into two transparent cubes that are dedicated to theater rehearsals and dance studio practices.
As soon as visitors step inside the $120 million building, they will be greeted by its striking layout. The theater is located next to glass-walled maker spaces, all overlooking a crescent-shaped atrium. Inside the maker spaces, a variety of benches and machine tools are connected to the ceiling by electrical cords and exhaust hoods. The workshop areas have garage-style doors that can be opened, allowing passersby to observe the innovative projects taking shape inside.
The Student Hall for Exploration and Development is designed to provide a creative and collaborative space for students to explore and develop their talents. With state-of-the-art facilities and a design that promotes transparency and interaction, this building is a hub for experimentation and innovation on campus.
