Vietnam in need of a national semiconductor laboratory

During a recent business trip to Hanoi, Professor Lee Young Hee emphasized the importance of investing in a National laboratory dedicated to semiconductor research, development, and training. As an Academician of the Korean Academy of Science and Technology and Director of the Center for Integrated Nanostructure Physics at Sungkyunkwan University, he has 15 years of research experience in semiconductor materials.

Professor Lee Young Hee highlighted the challenges facing the semiconductor industry, particularly with silicon technology reaching its fundamental limits. He underscored the need for Vietnam to focus on developing new technologies and materials to compete globally, especially in the quantum computing field. To achieve this goal, he suggested that Vietnam invest in educating and training high-quality human resources for the industry.

Looking ahead to 2030, Professor Lee Young Hee predicted a significant need for semiconductor engineers and workers in Vietnam. He called for government investment in infrastructure, modern equipment, and creating a favorable environment for businesses to operate and attract talent. Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat echoed these sentiments, highlighting the Ministry’s initiatives to develop human resources in the semiconductor industry.

Overall, Professor Lee Young Hee emphasized that developing the semiconductor industry requires a long-term commitment from both government and private sector investment. With a focus on training high-quality human resources and investing in infrastructure, Vietnam has the potential to compete with leading countries in the field of semiconductors if it adopts innovative technologies and fosters a culture of creativity and hard work.
