In the Women’s T20 World Cup qualifier, Scotland faced a crushing defeat against Sri Lanka, with Sri Lanka winning by 10 wickets. The match took place in Abu Dhabi on 27 April 2024.
Scotland batted first and only managed to score 94 runs in 18.1 overs, with Kathryn Bryce contributing the most with 22 runs. Despite their best efforts, Scotland struggled to keep up with Sri Lanka’s exceptional bowling. Kavisha Dilhari took an impressive 4 wickets for just 13 runs while Inoshi Priyadharshani also contributed by taking 3 wickets for just 11 runs.
In contrast, Sri Lanka easily chased down the target of just 94 runs in just 10.1 overs without losing any wickets. Captain Chamari Athapaththu played a brilliant innings, scoring an impressive 59 runs off just 35 balls.
The tournament continues as Scotland now faces United States and Thailand in their upcoming matches in Group A. Ireland, Zimbabwe, the Netherlands, United Arab Emirates, and Vanuatu make up Group B. The top two teams from each group will progress to the semi-finals scheduled for May 5th, with the final taking place two days later. The finalists of the tournament will secure a spot in the Women’s T20 World Cup which is set to take place in Bangladesh
