Martha’s Vineyard News from The Vineyard Gazette

Edgartown select board recently approved Carlos Gomes Teles Filho’s liquor license application for his new restaurant, Seagrass Bar and Grill, located on the former site of a Brazilian bakery on Upper Main street. The establishment is set to feature a sports bar and arcade games in addition to the bar and restaurant occupying the former Sharky’s Cantina space.

During the meeting, Mr. Teles discussed his plans to offer a menu consisting of pub food like burgers, pizza, and seafood at the new restaurant. However, he did not provide a specific opening date for Seagrass Bar and Grill. The renovation work at the location has been ongoing for several months following the closure of Sharky’s Cantina in 2022 due to lease issues.

The new restaurant owner received positive feedback from select board members who voted in favor of its establishment. Board member Michael Donroma was absent from the meeting, but Margaret Serpa and Arthur Smadbeck both expressed their support for Seagrass Bar and Grill. Ms. Serpa commented on the revitalization of the space and expressed confidence in its success moving forward. Following the vote, Mr. Smadbeck wished Mr. Teles good luck with his new endeavor, to which the restaurateur responded with a light-hearted remark about needing all the luck he can get.

In addition to his new venture, Mr. Teles also owns a landscaping company and two other dining establishments on Martha’s Vineyard – Square Rigger in Edgartown and Nina’s Dine and Dash in Vineyard Haven.

It is important to note that while board member Michael Donroma was absent from the meeting that voted in favor of Seagrass Bar and Grill, it received positive feedback from select board members who were present during this meeting.

Overall, Carlos Gomes Teles Filho’s new restaurant Seagrass Bar and Grill is set to be an exciting addition to Edgartown’s culinary scene as it will offer a sports bar and arcade games along with pub food like burgers, pizza, seafood at an ongoing renovated location that was previously known as Sharky’s Cantina on Upper Main Street
