Unique Stockton Science Facility Prepares Future Generations for Lucrative Careers

In the bustling city of Stockton, a unique facility is shaping the future of science education. Delta College’s Eyes of Science display was showcased during a free open house, giving visitors a glimpse into the world of electron microscopy. Jose Jimenez, an instructor at Delta College’s electron microscopy program, explained that they are able to observe the cell structure of atoms and explore the nanoworld through powerful microscopes mentored by Hitachi.

The Eyes of Science play a crucial role in various scientific fields, including research related to IC chips, circuit boards, and medical diagnostics. Now, Jimenez is passing on his knowledge to students like Logan Gorham, who never expected to find their passion in microscopy. The program has 20 enrolled students this semester and boasts a diverse group of individuals from the local community.

For students like Cassidy Altimari, the proximity and accessibility of the program are a stroke of luck. The program’s job placement rates and diverse opportunities offered in fields such as biological sciences, pharmaceuticals, and material sciences make it an attractive choice for aspiring scientists. Many graduates secure jobs soon after completing the program, with some like Alyssa Origer already lined up to work in cutting-edge fields like electric batteries at QuantumScape in San Jose.

The success of the program has led to plans for expansion on campus to accommodate more students. Rachaellien Trinh, the program director, aims to fill more seats and change the educational landscape at Delta College. Graduates of the program have seen a significant increase in their earnings, reflecting the value and impact of the training they receive at Delta College’s electron microscopy program.

Delta College’s Eyes of Science display is not only unique but also plays a crucial role in shaping young minds towards lucrative careers in science education. With its emphasis on practical training and real-world applications
