PC with Snapdragon X Plus: Uncompromising Artificial Intelligence

Qualcomm Technologies has announced a major update to its Snapdragon X Series platform with the launch of the new Snapdragon X Plus. This update promises to deliver a significant boost in CPU performance while simultaneously reducing energy consumption by up to 54%. With this advancement, users can accomplish more with greater efficiency than ever before.

At an event in London, Qualcomm showcased the capabilities of the Snapdragon X Plus processor. The chip demonstrated its prowess in artificial intelligence-based systems, capable of reasoning up to 30 tera operations per second using generative AI without requiring an internet connection. It also showcased new AI-optimized applications running on the 45 TOPS NPU, including code generation, music generation, and live caption production.

In terms of security, the chip offers total protection from components to the cloud. It supports AV1 encoding and decoding for 4K HDR video streaming and provides lossless audio through the Snapdragon Sound suite. Additionally, it can support up to three external UHD 60Hz monitors, creating a smoother viewing experience. LPDDR5x memory with 135GB/s bandwidth enhances AI experiences and multitasking capabilities.

The Snapdragon X Plus also enables users to stay connected through 5G and Wi-Fi 7 with HBS Multi-Link. Advanced MIPI camera support delivers high-quality images with features like auto-framing, background blur, and facial authentication at low power consumption. Devices makers are expected to release PCs equipped with Snapdragon X Plus alongside devices using Snapdragon X Elite in mid-2024.

Kedar Kondap, senior vice president and general manager of computing and gaming at Qualcomm Technologies Inc., commented on these advancements in the Snapdragon X Series platform saying that they deliver industry-leading experiences and are revolutionizing the PC industry. The blend of peak performance, AI capabilities, and power efficiency pushes the boundaries of what is possible in mobile computing.
