Ronnie O’Sullivan proposes modern refresh for Crucible Theatre in World Snooker Championship

In a bid to maintain its position as the venue for the World Championship, Ronnie O’Sullivan has shared his thoughts on how to enhance the Crucible. Since 1977, snooker’s premier event has been held in Sheffield, but with its contract set to expire in 2027, there is speculation about its future. Matchroom Sport’s president, Barry Hearn, has indicated that improvements are necessary to keep the tournament in Sheffield.

Hearn mentioned that changes were made for the 2024 tournament, but O’Sullivan believes further upgrades are necessary to improve the experience for players. He suggested including relaxation rooms, more practice tables, showers and a modern dressing room. O’Sullivan praised the recent addition of courtesy cars for players which made their experience more comfortable.

Despite acknowledging the recent improvements, O’Sullivan emphasized that more enhancements are needed to cater to the players’ needs. He stressed the importance of creating a player-friendly environment and suggested a complete redesign of the venue with help from an interior designer or architect. O’Sullivan’s wishlist includes additional amenities like relaxation rooms, practice tables and modern dressing rooms. If these changes are made then The Crucible will become a more inviting and accommodating venue for players and spectators alike ensuring its place as home of World Championship.
