Southern State’s STEM MiniDome Celebration Day Brings Excitement and Awards to Reynoldsburg and Zane Trace High School Students

Southern State’s Computer Science Department, led by Associate Professor Dr. Joshua Montgomery, organized a STEM MiniDome Celebration Day at the Center of Science and Industry (COSI) in Columbus on May 1. The event saw students from Reynoldsburg and Zane Trace participating in various activities and special guests. Dr. Montgomery and Eric Jacobs from the TSJ Foundation kicked off the event, followed by other special guests including Jason Messick from COSI and Dr. Ayanna Howard from The Ohio State University. Awards were given in different categories such as exceptional paint job, exceptional operations, exceptional electronics, crazy cabling, and best of show.

Dr. Montgomery expressed his appreciation for the event, stating that it was an amazing experience for the students from Reynoldsburg and Zane Trace. He thanked COSI for hosting the event and providing space and hospitality. Southern State’s Computer Science Program offers an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Computer Technology, with students able to choose two focus areas from four pathway options: Networking, Programming, Cybersecurity, and Robotics. The program provides in-demand skills in a flexible, affordable, and enjoyable environment with opportunities for internships and job placements with local companies.
