Spencer Fane attorney Bill Hopkins recently presented at the 25th annual Emerging Issues in Healthcare Law Conference (EMI) in New Orleans, hosted by the American Bar Association Health Law Section. The firm was also a sponsor of the event. Bill’s session, AI and Legal Ethics: Considerations for Health Care Attorneys, focused on the emerging legal ethics issues faced by health care attorneys as the use of artificial intelligence grows. He and Jason Lacey from IMA Financial Group discussed the use of generative artificial intelligence in legal tasks, the preparation of legal documents, and the evolving rules and guidelines that may restrict such use. They also addressed specific ethics concepts such as technology competence, maintaining confidentiality, and discharging supervisory obligations.
During his presentation, Bill emphasized the importance of protecting healthcare providers and companies from potential pitfalls in the industry. As Office Managing Partner for the Austin office and a member of the Spencer Fane DEI Committee, he serves as an advocate and educator for his clients in administrative law, regulatory defense, transactional work, compliance, and litigation.
