IndyStar sports columnist Gregg Doyel will not cover Indiana Fever, according to IndyStar spokesperson speaking to CNN.

Gannett, the parent company of IndyStar, has announced that sports columnist Gregg Doyel will not be covering the Indiana Fever this season. This decision comes after an uncomfortable interaction Doyel had with Caitlin Clark during her introductory news conference in April.

During the news conference, Doyel made a heart gesture with his hands towards Clark, which she often did during her college basketball career. When Clark asked if he liked it, Doyel responded, “I like that you’re here,” and suggested she start doing it to him for them to get along. Doyel later apologized for his comments, acknowledging that they were inappropriate and awkward.

It is unclear if Doyel will cover any NBA teams this season. When contacted by CNN, Doyel did not comment on the situation. Meanwhile, Clark and the Indiana Fever are set to start their 25th regular season next Tuesday on the road against the Connecticut Sun.
