The Medi-Gators program offers students chances to shadow health professionals and explore careers – News

Nicole Hernandez, an undergraduate biochemistry student at UF, recently had the opportunity to virtually shadow healthcare professionals as part of Medi-Gators, a shadowing program. Through this experience, she was able to develop essential communication skills and strengthen her resolve to continue on the pre-med track.

Hernandez found it eye-opening to see how teams work together in the healthcare field and how important communication is for success. As a member of Medi-Gators, she served on the events committee and as a student ambassador. Through these roles, she was able to gain valuable exposure and experiences in the healthcare field.

Medi-Gators aims to provide mentorship to its members and expose them to different career options in healthcare. Hernandez found it challenging to navigate these options but was able to gain valuable insights through the program. She is set to graduate in May 2024 and plans to take a gap year before applying to medical school.
