On the last Saturday of April, a local Tai Chi Club joined hundreds of clubs from at least 80 countries in celebrating World Tai Chi and Qigong Day in Triangle Park. The event, which has been taking place globally for the past three years, promotes the benefits of practicing Tai Chi and QiGong. At 10 a.m. local time, the clubs performed their forms, creating a wave of energy and intention for world peace and health.

The motto for the event is “One World, One Breath,” emphasizing global togetherness and harmony. Initiated by Master teacher Bill Douglas in 1999, World Tai Chi and Qigong Day has been celebrated globally ever since. Tai Chi is often described as “moving meditation,” requiring practice to achieve the meditative benefits. Local beginner classes are available at the STEP Senior Center in Lock Haven.

Tai Chi has numerous health benefits that have been recognized by Harvard Health Publications, who have described it as “moving medication.” For more information about World Tai Chi and QiGong Day, visit www.worldtaichiday.org.
