Tampa — Lightning forward Mikey Eyssimont has been chosen to represent Team USA in the International Ice Hockey Federation World Championships for the second year running. On Sunday morning, he was one of nine players named to the team roster. The tournament will take place in Czechia from Friday through May 26th.
Last year, Eyssimont scored a goal and two assists in nine games as part of Team USA’s fourth-place finish at worlds. The previous year’s U.S. squad made history by winning its first eight games. Born in Littleton, Colorado, Eyssimont will join the team in Bratislava, where they are currently training. Team USA’s first game will be against Sweden in Ostrava on Friday as part of the eight preliminary-round games. Some games will be broadcast on NHL Network.
Eyssimont had an impressive season last year, making his full-time debut with the Lightning at age 27. He set career highs with 11 goals and 25 points while playing primarily on the team’s third line. His 135 hits ranked third on the team, showcasing his strong two-way game grounded in solid forechecking. Eyssimont was also named the Lightning’s nominee for this year’s Bill Masterton Trophy, which is awarded to a player who embodies perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to the game.
