Tesla has announced a recall of nearly 4,000 Cybertruck cars in the United States due to an issue with the accelerator pedal. The problem is that the gas pedal may become stuck when pressed, potentially leading to unintended acceleration and an increased risk of a crash. The recall applies to all model year 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured between November 13 and April 4, totaling 3,878 cars.
Tesla began delivering Cybertruck vehicles to customers in late November after several delays. However, the company is now recalling these vehicles to address this issue, which affects practically all Cybertrucks delivered since launch. The issue is believed to be caused by soap residue used as a lubricant during assembly of the pedals, which may cause the pedal cover to come off and become stuck in the upholstery around the footwell when pressed.
No crashes or injuries have been reported due to accelerator pedal failure, but Tesla has postponed deliveries of Cybertruck cars for some customers. Customers have reported problems related to the gas pedal on social media, prompting NHTSA to be in contact with Tesla to gather more information on the issue. It is advised that customers affected by the recall contact Tesla for necessary repairs.
