The Tulsa Black Mental Health Alliance (TBMHA) is a local nonprofit organization focused on addressing mental health issues within Tulsa’s black community. Founded by Licensed Professional Counselor Kimberly Whayne, the organization aims to reduce stigmas surrounding mental health and provide more resources to those in need.
One of the key principles of TBMHA is creating a supportive environment for people of color who are facing mental health challenges. Whayne emphasized the importance of receiving mental health services from individuals who understand the unique experiences of the black community, and highlighted the need for effective tools to work through trauma, crisis, and generational traumas that are specific to African Americans and black and brown individuals.
In addition to offering professional counseling services, TBMHA is committed to providing other resources to help individuals improve their mental health. This includes educating the community about mental health and offering tips, resources, and connections to community organizations with professionals who share similar experiences.
TBMHA was established by the Terence Crutcher Foundation and collaborates with agencies like Overcross Counseling and Caring Hearts Professional Counseling Services in North Tulsa. Those interested in partnering with TBMHA can reach out to the organization for more information on how to get involved.
