Drivers stranded in Starnberg (Bavaria) due to storm

The city of Starnberg was hit by violent storms that caused widespread flooding. The storm front moved across southern Bavaria, bringing hailstorms and heavy rainfall. Emergency services responded to over 50 missions as the B2 highway had to be closed due to the extreme weather conditions.

Within just five minutes, up to seven liters of water per square meter fell, leading to flooded basements, impassable streets, and stranded drivers in the city center. The district town of Starnberg was particularly affected, with some streets having to be closed off. Major roads like the B2 and A 952 were temporarily impassable, causing traffic backups for kilometers.

The sewerage system struggled to handle the excess water, leading to flooding in various properties throughout the area. Emergency services also had to respond to incidents in Pöcking and other nearby areas. Despite the challenges posed by the severe weather, the community came together to support one another and address the aftermath of the storm.

In response to the storm, the district fire inspection set up its operations center in the district office and called for assistance from neighboring fire departments. Fortunately, there were no reports of injuries, but the storm did force the cancellation of events like the French Week in Starnberg.
