Dean appointed to Vanderbilt College of Arts and Science at Vanderbilt University

Vanderbilt University has appointed Tim McNamara as the dean of the College of Arts and Science. McNamara, a 41-year veteran of the university, has been serving as the interim dean for the college since July 2023. He will officially start his two-year term as dean on July 1.

Throughout his tenure at Vanderbilt, McNamara has been recognized for his strategic insights, collaboration, and dedication. He started his academic career at Vanderbilt in 1983 as an instructor and has since held various positions within the university. He holds the Gertrude Conaway Vanderbilt Chair in Social and Natural Sciences and has served as a professor in the Department of Psychology. He also held administrative roles such as chair of the Psychology department and associate provost for faculty.

Cybele Raver, the Vanderbilt provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs, expressed confidence in McNamara’s ability to lead the College of Arts and Science into a transformative phase of growth and progress. With his leadership qualities, McNamara is seen as the ideal candidate to guide the college through this exciting future.
