Grocer to Carry Virginia Tech Graduate’s Sauce

Virginia Tech graduate Tahjere Lewis has successfully turned his family recipe into a commercially available product called Aunt Carol’s Sauce. His entrepreneurship continues, and now Food Lion, the largest retailer to agree to carry the item so far, has announced that it will start selling the sauce in its Hampton Roads stores next month. Lewis is 24 years old and lives in the area.

In other news, region’s winemakers have reopened their tasting rooms for the season. AmRhein’s Wine Cellars in Bent Mountain opened its tasting room on April 6, while Villa Appalaccia Winery just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in Patrick County “surpassed expectations” at the opening of its tasting room on March 15. Co-owner Julie Block said, “People are just itching to get back out.”

Unfortunately, Stanburn Winery in Stuart has announced that it will close after the upcoming season. It made the announcement on social media on March 18. Keep an eye out for more local business news delivered directly to your inbox every week by subscribing now.
