Congratulations to the winners of the State Tournament from Waynesboro Science Olympiad!

The WASD Division B Science Olympiad team had a remarkable weekend at the State Tournament held at Penn State Altoona on April 27, 2024. After qualifying for the Central Regional Tournament, the team went up against 35 other school districts who had also won in their regional tournaments. In total, 73 districts started the year with teams, making the competition intense.

The team’s hard work paid off as they won an impressive 13 medals, surpassing their previous record of five medals in three previous state appearances. The highlight of the day was Caiden Shacreaw and Tyler Rooney winning the state championship in the Crime Busters event. Several students also won two medals on the day, showcasing their talent and dedication to the competition.

The awards and events that stood out were: first place/state champions in Crime Busters – Caiden Shacreaw and Tyler Rooney; fourth place in Wind Power – Chase Noyer, Ava Moatz; fourth place in Write it, Do it – Maycie Bitner, Brenna Hollingsworth; fifth place in Ecology – Izzy Bupp, Will Stein; seventh place in Anatomy and Physiology (Cardiovascular, Lymphatic, and Excretory Systems) – Maycie Bitner, Brenna Hollingsworth; seventh place in Codebusters – Caiden Shacreaw, Tyler Rooney and Izzy Bupp. This success highlights how diverse skills are necessary to excel in science competitions.

Overall, this achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication of both teachers and students involved with WASD’s Science Olympiad team. They have set a new standard for themselves within their school district while inspiring future generations of scientists to pursue their passions through competition.
