On Thursday, steering committees will gather to put together brackets for the district softball playoffs and lacrosse tournaments. The WPIAL Playoff Pairings Show will air at 2 p.m. Thursday on Trib HSSN, providing a detailed breakdown of the softball playoff brackets.
On Friday, the brackets for district baseball and boys volleyball playoffs will be released, with the Baseball Playoff Pairing Show airing at noon on Trib HSSN. As the regular season comes to an end, several WPIAL teams are vying for a spot in the postseason.
In Section 1-3A of softball, Upper St. Clair has secured a playoff berth. However, if they lose and Bethel Park upsets Canon-McMillan, both teams could earn postseason spots. In Section 2-2A, Derry has a chance to make it a four-way tie for second place and clinch a playoff spot with a win on Thursday.
In boys volleyball, North Allegheny and Shaler are tied for first in Section 2-3A, meaning that either team can secure an outright section win with a victory on Thursday. In Section 3-3A, Penn-Trafford can also secure an outright section win with a victory on Thursday. North Catholic and South Fayette also have the chance to secure a share of the title in their respective sections with wins on Thursday.
