Armand Duplantis of Sweden set a new world record in pole vaulting at the first Diamond League meeting of the season in Xiamen, China. At just 24 years old, Duplantis has already set a total of eight world records in the discipline and is widely regarded as one of the greatest pole vaulters of all time. He cleared the bar at an impressive height of 6.24 meters, making him the first person ever to achieve such a feat.
Despite his incredible accomplishments, Duplantis remains humble and focused on continuing to push himself to new heights. He celebrated his latest record by jumping off the mat and saluting the crowd, before expressing his excitement for the upcoming Paris Olympic Games. Meanwhile, in other events at the Diamond League meeting, Christian Coleman of the USA won the men’s 100 meters race with a time of 10.13 seconds, just ahead of fellow American Fred Kerley and Jamaica’s Ackeem Blake. In a tightly contested women’s 200 meters event, 19-year-old Torrie Lewis surprised everyone by taking her first Diamond League victory, beating out favorites like Sha’Carri Richardson of the USA and an late-charging Australian competitor.
